About Department

The Gurugram University, set up in the heart of the corporate hub of India, began its functioning in the year 2017 and the Department of Economics in the University was established in the year 2019 with the vision to equip economics graduates with strong theoretical foundation along with industrial and corporate experience to train them for future employment in multinational companies apart from research organizations and academic institutions. The Department is currently running two Masters Programmes- one in Economics and the other in Applied Economics with two choices of specializations, i.e., Finance and International Business. The Department has well qualified faculty from some of the top central and state universities of India with significant research experience.

In order to improve the verbal communication skills of the students, the faculty of the Department engages them regularly in class-presentations as a part of internal assessment program. Also business communication and Japanese as foreign language are an internal part of the course Curriculum. The Department also invites distinguished speakers from reputed national and international organizations for interactions with students. The students are taken for visit to industrial expos to inculcate entrepreneurial skills in them.

To emerge as a prestigious center of teaching and research in theoretical & applied economics including latest areas in the field requiring an interdisciplinary approach.

MISSION:

The mission of the Department is to become a magnate for young scholars in the field of economics who contribute to better understanding of economic realities and their impact on today’s society. In specific, we strive to:
  • Prepare students to acquire applied knowledge of economics to enhance their employability and entrepreneurship.
  • Engage students with broader social issues to promote informed policy decisions.
  • Focus on development of communication analytical skills for holistic personality development of students.
  • Train students in advanced economic analysis with the help of latest software commonly used by business/corporates.
  • Encourage both basic and applied research in economics that pushes the frontiers of knowledge in the field for inclusive development.
