About Department
The Department of Psychology (RCI’s Centre of Excellence) was established in the year 2018 with an aim to promote Psychology as a domain for investigating the solutions of human problems by assembling academician, practitioners & students. The Department of Psychology is also nominated as the Centre of Excellence by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI), New Delhi, reflecting its commitment to high standards in mental health education and services. The Department of Psychology prepares students to become professional Psychologist, Counsellor & mental health practitioners who can effectively deal with diverse mental health issues like stress, depression, anxiety & suicidal tendencies. The Department of Psychology offers six programmes: B.Sc. Clinical Psychology (RCI Approved), M.Sc. Psychology, Post-Graduate Diploma in Clinical Psychology (RCI Approved), M.Phil. Clinical Psychology (RCI Approved), M.A. Clinical Psychology(RCI Approved) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.).
The Department of Psychology has a functional mental wellness clinic “Mano-Sukoon” which was inaugurated with the aim of providing the sought after therapeutic interventions to the students and teaching and non-teaching staff of Gurugram University. The department has a mental health outreach email “sukoon.wellness@gurugramuniversity.ac.in” which is open for whosoever wants to seek help, free of cost.
The Department of Psychology has signed MoU’s with the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences (IHBAS), New Delhi, and the Vidyasagar Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (VIMHANS), New Delhi, to provide internship, clinical training and research opportunities for psychology students. In addition, the department actively offers consultancy services on stress management to the Gurugram Police.
As part of its community outreach initiatives, the department has adopted the Tigra slum cluster and Kankrola Village. Faculty members and students regularly conduct mental health camps and workshops, screening and early intervention programs, as well as assessments addressing
psychological, behavioural, and emotional issues, along with aptitude and personality evaluations.
Many M.Sc. Psychology graduates from the department are successfully engaged in academia, corporate sectors, entrepreneurial ventures, or pursuing higher studies in India & Abroad. Several students have qualified examinations such as the UGC NET–JRF and GATE, while one alumni is currently pursuing a Ph.D. at University College London and another student is enrolled for Masters of Rehabilitation Counselling and Mental Health at Latrobe University Melbourne, Australia. While some are holding faculty positions in good universities.
